handmade beeswax wraps
I’ve wanted to make beeswax wraps for several years but I honestly thought it would be too messy to bother with. I was wrong! It takes minutes, costs basically nothing, and is not messy at all! Save money and help out the environment with these diy reusable beeswax wraps.
SUPPLIES:
cotton fabric (any size) I use scrap fabric and old clothes! Thin cotton works the best!
beeswax pellets
paint brush
pinking sheers
rimmed baking sheet
parchment paper
a line and clothespins
DIRECTIONS:
Iron your cotton and then cut it into a square or rectangle. I use a cutting mat and rotary blade then trim the edges with my pinking sheers.
Preheat oven to 200 degrees and line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper.
lay your fabric on the parchment paper and sprinkle with beeswax pellets.
4. place into the oven and turn on the oven light so you can watch it. The pellets will melt within a few minutes so keep an eye on it. Once all the pellets melt remove the tray from the oven and brush the fabric with the paintbrush to make sure the melted wax is evenly dispersed.
5. work quickly so that the wax doesn’t harden to the parchment and hang your saturated fabric so it can air dry. I hang over the sink so that if it drips I have easy clean up.
6. after it dries. Roll it up and secure with a ribbon and store it to replace your plastic wrap. Just press it firmly over the container and it will stick as your hands warm it up.
CARE:
These wraps can’t be washed in warm water because the wax will melt. Wipe clean with a cool water cloth, let dry, press flat, and re-roll to store again. Do not use to wrap raw meat! It can be used to cover a container with meat in it as long as the fabric isn’t directly touching any product that could spread bacterial contamination.
If after time the wrap starts to crack and be difficult to use, place it in the oven to warm again and re-brush it back to it’s original state.
