handmade soup bowl cozies
This project is perfect if you’re looking to make homemade gifts this year! Very low material investment and they sew up very quickly even for a beginner sewer. Make a stack and divvy out the love of soup and making it even more of a cozy, comfort food.
MATERIALS:
squares of cotton (9.5x9.5 inches) I have repurposed clothing and sheets to make these!
cotton quilting batting (9.5x9.5 inches)
coordinating cotton thread
EQUIPMENT:
sewing machine
rotary cutter/cutting mat/flat ruler
(You can cut these by hand if needed) Just cut a piece of paper to 9.5x9.5 square and pin it to your fabric and batting to cut out your pattern.
fabric sheers
pins
DIRECTIONS:
cut two cotton squares and two batting squares
pin a batting square to the wrong side of each cotton square
attach the batting to the cotton piece by sewing an X (Repeat)
4. fold square in half with right sides together and sew in darts on each folded end
5. unfold and refold with the opposite two ends together and repeat darts
( I eyeball this step. I line up the corner so that I start sewing the dart 3/4 inch inch in and then just angle it off at a natural line.)
6. trim the excess from the darts. Repeat with second square
7. once both squares are darted and trimmed sew them together with right sides together, leaving a small seam allowance and a few inches open for turning
8. turn right side out and sew opening closed.
All done! You’re going to love making these soup bowl cozies! They keep your soup warm but help you not burn your hands and they protect your surfaces. My kids use these any time they heat up anything in a bowl!
Machine wash and dry!
