homemade dishwasher pods
These take time to harden so don’t wait until you run completely out to make a batch. I let mine sit overnight before removing them from the mold. Regardless they are so easy that the preparedness is totally worth it!
INGREDIENTS:
1 cup of baking soda
1 cup of washing soda
1/2 cup of epsom salt
fresh lemon juice ~2 large lemons (I use 1/3 cup plus 2 Tbsp)
5 drops rosemary essential oil
5 drops eucalyptus essential oil
5 drops cinnamon bark essential oil
20 drops of lemon essential oil
SUPPLIES:
Large glass bowl
whisk
DIRECTIONS:
Mix all ingredients together in a glass bowl starting with the powders and ending with the essential oils. I wear a mask so that I don’t breath in the dust from the powders. The mixture is like barely damp sand, it separates but if you squeeze a handful it should stay together. Add more lemon if it’s too crumbly.
Press into the square molds, packed tightly and let set until hardened. I wait at least 12 hours. Then pop them out and store in an air-tight container.
Use just like you use store bought pods.
NOTE: The first time I made these I put too much mixture in the molds and they were too big to fit in my dishwasher detergent tray. I still used them! I just skipped the tray and tossed them in the basin of the machine. Now I only fill the cubes about halfway.
These work just as good as store bought dishwasher pods but cost way less and are environmentally friendly as well.
